Paul Douglas, a Republican and a meteorologist, has written a nice piece about how he changed his mind about climate change.

None of us need to “know that much”. It’s just not possible for every single one of us to become an atmospheric physicist and an oceanographer and a glaciologist and an ecologist and every other kind of scientist involved in climate science. All leading scientists themselves have to rely on each other’s expertise in their various areas.
What we have to do is to do what we do in other technical areas – rely on the experts. We use doctors, mechanics, plumbers, lawyers, veterinarians, electricians, accountants when we need their expertise. And we don’t ask the electrician for legal or veterinary advice either, we expect them to stick to their area of competence.
We should do the same for climate science. They’re experts. Rely on them.

here’s the timeline. I think the dailymail article was inspired by Lewis Page at the Register who was in turn inspired by Anthony Watts. I don’t believe for a second that all three of them independently found an obscure press release.

They nicely hide the transfer. The dailymail doesn’t admit the story is taken from the register. Lewis Page doesn’t admit he took it from Watts. Watts doesn’t admit where he got it from – but I think I know.
